JENNET THOMAS (UK)

Jennet Thomas is an artist and film maker whose work emerged out of the lively Underground/experimental film club scene in London in the 1990's. (see www.explodingcinema.org)
She constructs formally and psychologically playful work, experimenting with the act of telling. Her videos can contain passages that look like TV drama, sci-fi, educational programmes, alongside activity more akin to performance art. She likes to confound hierarchies of cultural production; professional, hobbyist, 'underground', video art, home made folk culture?
She also makes things, including 'found painting collaborations' discreetly adding new elements to other people's work.

Her work screens regularly throughout International Film and Media Festival circuits in Europe, the US and beyond and also shows in galleries as installations. Recent solo shows retrospectives include; 'Return of the Black Tower' at Peer (www.peeruk.org) Anthology Film Archives in New York, the Centre d’Art Contemporain de Basse-Normandie in France. She has recently toured a collaborative video installation show with partner and film maker Paul Tarragó see www.wemakeourowntv.com
