“Everything I knew about America I learned from the Movies” is a cycle of 11 short pieces, made from found footage on 16 mm film and 8 mm film, mostly home movies. The original footage was scanned to the computer, and edited digitally. Each piece relates to a film genre: a musical, a western, a Hitchcock film, etc. Everything I knew about America I learned from the Movies explores the relationship between home movies and amateur film to mainstream cinema. 

Hazel and David

Hazel & David, video 2005, is a remake of David and Hazel (1963) a marriage counseling drama illustrating the conflict between a non-communicative husband and his family. I reversed the narrative, spliced the film stock and re-scanned the original onto computer, then played with the protagonists' point of view and manipulated the sound and created Hazel & David.

NOMI TALISMAN

Nomi Talisman works with photography, video, and other art forms. She likes to use the colors orange, blue and has a special fondness for hard drives, (which probably means she's a geek). She has exhibited her work in Israel, where she was born, and in England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Canada and the U.S. Her video work often explores the relationships between home movies, amateur films and mainstream cinema, and has been screened internationally. She likes to experiment with sound in her movies, although she would not call herself a musician. Neither would her landlord, dog, or her partner. Talisman currently lives in San Francisco, CA.
