Two adolescent boys compete to see who can do the most arm-curls with a single dumb-bell.  The act itself is a performative test of masculinity that ritualizes strength, perseverance, and competition.  Ironically, these values are tested by the humor generated by the performers themselves.

Jen DeNike is a video artist and photographer who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She is represented by Oliver Kamm 5BE Gallery NYC. She received her MFA from Bard College in 2002. Recent exhibitions of her work include; PAN Museum Naples Italy, "Greater NY" 2005 at PS1 Contemporary Art Center, CAHM Museum Houston, Contemporary Art Center New Orleans, Site Gallery Sheffield England, Bronx Museum of the Arts. She currently has a solo exhibition of photographs at 404 Contemporari Naples Italy, and a forthcoming Solo Exhibition of Videos at Oliver Kamm 5BE Gallery opening November 18, 2005. She is the co-founder of a nomadic arts curatorial collective called Frisbee. Her videos are in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
